Grilled Spicy Sweet Potato “Steak Fries”

(modification of recipe originally from Paleo Leap)

Serves 6

  • 1 ½ pounds sweet potatoes or yams (about 2 medium size), unpeeled and cut into ½ inch wedges lengthwise
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground red/cayenne pepper

Preheat grill to medium-high heat.

Bring a pot of water to boil on stovetop.  Blanch the potato wedges 3 to 4 minutes and drain.  Move to a large bowl.  Drip the oil onto them and mix well, making sure that all wedges are coated.

In a small bowl, combine the spices (paprika through red/cayenne pepper) and mix well.  Add the spicy seasoning mix to the potato wedges and mix well again, making sure that all wedges are covered.

Grill the wedges for 10 minutes, turning at least once, or until nicely grilled and soft.
