About Me

John T About Me PictureI’m a 50-something former electrical engineer and have worked for high-tech companies since college. I was born in New Jersey, attended college in the Boston area, and then spent 4 years as a Lieutenant in the Air Force at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH (where I met my wife of 30+ years!). Following our time in the Air Force we lived in Wilmington, NC for 11 years before moving to New England in 2000. With close proximity to the White Mountains in New Hampshire (we’ve climbed the forty-eight 4000-footers in the Whites) we had a great time there, but have since returned to Wilmington to settle down.

I have always been athletic having played baseball in college and in an over-30 baseball league in Massachusetts, and I’m an avid golfer. In my 40’s, however, I started to neglect my nutrition and exercise needs and my weight rose to almost 175 lbs. (at 5’ 8” that was too much to be carrying around considering it was 25% body fat). Cholesterol and blood pressure were high and I knew it would only get worse unless I made some changes. To top it all off my father passed away unexpectedly in his 70’s, possibly from his less than ideal nutritional habits and lack of exercise.  I decided I did not want that to happen to me.

After watching the Insanity infomercials for 6 months I bought the program and committed to starting immediately after the 2011 holidays. I knew it would be extreme but convinced myself I could modify the program if needed and committed to seeing it through to completion. The 60 days flew by and so did 12 lbs. of fat, thanks also in large part to following the included Nutrition Guide. My wife saw the results and wanted in on the next round!

Several years and many program rounds later I am healthier than I have ever been in my life. My cholesterol and blood pressure have dropped into normal ranges, and my body mass index is right where it is supposed to be. Hiking is now easier than ever without all the extra weight, and with my added flexibility I took 3 strokes off my golf game. Now it’s time to share the message and encourage others to have the same success I did.
